Our Story

Background

The idea for hemp for humanity arose as an idea to solve a problem. That problem is an ever-growing population that depends on a planet with finite resources. Over the past 70 years, we have seen the strain this puts on our environment and now we are beginning to see the pressure on our supply chains and communities. Since the industrial revolution, the production of all of our consumer goods has continually pushed towards global supply chains. This is great for businesses that are trying to minimize the cost of goods sold, but not so great for the end consumer not to mention the environment.

This is what a typical global supply chain looks like. And to be honest, this might even be an abbreviated depiction. But regardless, this complexity leaves a lot of room for failure. Not to mention an enormous carbon footprint. Fortunately for us, there is a super versatile plant that freshly out of prohibition that may be able to serve a role in multiple industries to offer us a sustainable alternative route.

Cody Explains: Why Hemp?

During my time in school studying environmental science, I was very passionate about our plastic problem, and in the search for sources for bio-polymer-based plastic alternatives, I came across Hemp. This led me down a rabbit hole in the variety of uses of hemp. I learned it could be grown to be manufactured into everything from water bottles to cars and fuel. But the most important thing to me was that no matter what it was being grown for, the cultivation of this plant sequesters SO much carbon. This is a potential solution to a number of issues we face today such as climate change, supply chain shortages, and infrastructure development. We now have a plant that can act as a feedstock to the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and industrial polymer industries that, when cultivated has been shown to sequester 15tonnes of CO2 per hectare. By the way, the US per capita carbon footprint is 16 tonnes per year. At this point, I knew I wanted to do something with this plant.

Cody Explains: The Mission

In the past few years I've been fortunate enough to learn a lot about the potential of hemp and biopolymers from a lot of amazing people. In my opinion, the quickest path to using hemp’s true potential is the building industry. Our goal is to create community around the circular economy. Connecting our communities back to the source of production. Our farms. When you purchase materials or start a build with H4H you are contributing to a greener and healthier way of building and living.

Right now we are seeking partners and collaborators in the housing development space that are looking to make a large impact on the lives of the residents and the environment. We are working towards a pre-fabrication facility that would allow us to create these houses more efficiently and cost effectively.
